"Pay to Play" Culture- Money Does Not Equal Talent

We live in a “Pay to Play” culture when it comes to everything for kids; whether it’s being on a sports league team, or being in a musical. Is this fair?

Nope.

Is it going to change?

Also nope.

Schools are so essential because they give kids places to explore their talents. And they do so for free. Parents with more money can send their kids to “special” programs outside of their schools so they can get additional training, and that’s really nice for those families.

Having been a teacher in urban schools for the past fifteen years, I can say that it’s really obvious who the “haves” and “have-nots” are. There were students who had to miss rehearsals because they had to be responsible for their younger brothers or sisters. Is that fair to anyone involved?

Nope.

Will this type of behavior stop in certain communities?

Also nope.

Why? Because when there is a home with many kids, and there is not a lot of money, the responsibilities fall to the older children to raise the younger ones. This idea may…
